On 12th May 2019 between 1500-1900 hrs, the SBA Police Community unit in partnership with Trachoni Gymnasium and the Parents and School committees, organised a Road Safety awareness event, which took place within the yard of Trachoni Gymnasium which is situated within the SBAs’.  

The SBA Police, in liaison with the Service Fire Section, presented a Road Traffic Collision in the presence of approximately 300 locals, where each emergency units displayed how they perform their duties at the scene of a serious road traffic accident.

 

The Police deals with the road, carrying out traffic control and preserving the scene, identifying any possible witnesses, whilst the ambulance will deals with any casualties and the fire service is responsible for cutting open a vehicle in order to remove any trapped casualty/ies if necessary and also clean up the road, especially if any dangerous substances are present or have been spilled on the road.

 

During the event, the SBA Police also set up a display stand, in liaison with CyPol traffic department, whereby various road safety awareness leaflets were distributed to the public and some reflective strap bands were also given to children. Police equipment such as the speed gun and a road side breathalyser were also on display at the stand and locals had the opportunity to see how these equipment are operated.    

 

Mp's and other officials attended the event which was also covered by local media, which turned out to be a very successful and worthwhile event.
