Driving under the influence of alcohol is the main cause of fatal traffic collisions in our country. During the five year period of 2012 – 2017, more than 60 fellow citizens lost their lives in traffic collisions, the cause of which was consumption of alcohol prior to driving.

For this reason, within the framework of its efforts for preventing and reducing road traffic collisions and for consolidating public conscience for safety in the road network, Cyprus Police, between the 5th of February and the 11th of February, 2018, carried out the 1st Pancyprian campaign of this year, against driving under the influence of alcohol.

During the campaign 1,662 checks were carried out on a Pancyprian scale, out of which 126 violations were reported.
